The London Borough of Barnet is currently undertaking steps to transform the Brent Cross area. Plans have been drawn for a £4 billion regeneration scheme designed to create a new northern town centre for London. The plans include developments in infrastructure, retail, leisure, educational facilities, and residential developments that will radically alter the wider area. The scheme will also aim to provide increased community amenity with the improvement of Clitterhouse Playing Fields and Claremont Park.
The Council is working in connection with the major retail developer Hammerson and the influential investment house Standard Life to bring this project forward. The scheme will see a large part of the Brent Cross area redeveloped in order to provide over 7,500 homes to the community and increase retail opportunities. Planning consent was gained in 2014, and the process of acquisition and preliminary construction is being undertaken now.
