Development & Compulsory Purchase
New Development Presses Forward at West Hendon
The redevelopment of the West Hendon Estate has been marred with opposition from the beginning however building work is now moving swiftly forward. Comprising 680 flats and houses constructed in the early 1970’s, this local authority built estate is being demolished to deliver more than 2,000 new homes, community centre, park and leisure facilities. Situated within the London Borough of Barnet, the estate overlooks the Welsh Harp Reservoir, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Roger Hannah & Co. acted for long leaseholders who had resided on the estate for a significant number of years. Like many of the residents here, they did not want to relocate away from the area as a result of the CPO. After some quite difficult and protracted negotiations, we were able to successfully agree deals with Barnet Borough Council which allowed our clients to acquire a shared equity property within the new development.
