Development & Compulsory Purchase
SEMMMS CPO of Moorend Golf Course
Roger Hannah & Co have acted on behalf of the owners of Moorend Golf Course in Woodford, Stockport. Their occupation and business use of the land as a golf course has been directly affected by the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council A6 to Manchester Airport Compulsory Purchase Order.
The South East Manchester Multi Modal Strategy (SEMMMS) is planned to provide 10 kilometres of new 2-lane dual carriageway. The scheme is designed to bypass heavily-congested district and local centres including Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Handforth, Poynton, Wythenshawe, Gatley and Heald Green.
The scheme incorporates 7 new and 4 improved junctions, 4 railway crossings and a parallel shared cycle/pedestrian path. The construction of this new route will provide a direct East-West transport link through south east Greater Manchester and Cheshire East.
The road scheme has taken 21.427 acres of land from the site, which had a significant impact upon the existing golf course on the site which had six of its nine holes affected by the scheme. Roger Hannah and Co objected to the Compulsory Purchase Order and in particular the extent of land take proposed. Our objection helped us in negotiating a substantial sum for our clients with Stockport Council, which included loss of land, impact on the retained land and disturbance compensation. The site also has a driving range on site which remains open and in light of compensation received the course is undergoing a redesign to reduce the course to a par 3 course.
