Acting for Kroll Ontrack, Roger Hannah & Co, negotiated for the company to leave their 10,000 sq ft of office accommodation in Cardinal House, Farringdon and to relocate to alternative offices in Tower Place close to Tower Bridge.
Crossrail wanted to demolish Cardinal House, but Kroll had a lease on the 9th and 10th floors. They therefore proceeded with a CPO to acquire the building and to extinguish the leasehold interests. Kroll's claim all related to business disturbance and demonstrates that significant compensation can be payable to cover the cost of relocation.
The claim was complicated by the high level of operational reliance on information technology. The need for a certain level of supply to support the computer technology influenced the type of property that the Company could relocate to. A significant disturbance compensation sum was agreed with Crossrail on behalf of Kroll Ontrack including double occupation costs, fit out, loss of profits, time costs etc.
