Roger Hannah & Co Secure New Operators For The Savoy Cinema in Heaton Moor

Following an eventful period of marketing, Roger Hannah are delighted to announce that new tenants have been secured to breathe new life into The Savoy Cinema.

Stuart Cooper, Director of Roger Hannah, commented:

“This deal secures the future of The Savoy Cinema. During the marketing period, we received interest from the full spectrum of occupiers. Eventually, given the considerable community interest in this property, the deal became more about securing a suitable occupier to restore The Savoy to former glories in the heart of Heaton Moor than a purely commercial/financial decision. It is great to see the plans and investment that will transform The Savoy and secure its place as a centre piece for The Heaton Moor and wider community. The Mundin family have a proven track record and their commitment and passion to the property and deal are testament to them.

Films will return to the big screen at The Savoy Cinema, Heaton Moor, once again this autumn. The Mundin family, who also own The Ritz in Belper and The Regal in Melton Mowbray, are set to start work on a £250,000 refurbishment of The Savoy.  The building will be transformed into a modern picture house showing a mix of commercial, cultural and classic films.  The auditorium will have seating for 125 and will include the options of luxury armchairs and sofas for two.  There will be the latest digital projection and surround sound.  The foyer will be completely re-modelled to offer comfortable seating and a café bar where pre-film refreshments will be served.  The Savoy will once again be the heart of The Heatons!

A cinema for everyone, The Savoy will show a wide variety of films for all ages and offer several films each week.  Every evening, there will be two films as well as family matinees at the weekends and school holidays.  A classic film will be recommended once a month and a specially selected Silver Screen will be presented in the daytime once a week.

The Mundin family are no strangers to independent cinema, Amanda Mundin has run the successful Ritz Cinema in Derbyshire for over eight years and her son Jacob and wife Bryony currently operate The Regal Cinema in Leicestershire.  The family business will continue to grow when son Louis and fiancé Sophie Smith open the doors to The Savoy in the autumn.    The family have visited The Heatons on a number of occasions and have been struck by the friendliness of the locals.  Amanda’s husband, Tony, says, “we are very much looking forward to bringing The Savoy back to its former glory.  Cinema plays an important part in many communities and we can feel The Savoy will be no exception.  We are very excited and hope to be able to offer a fantastic local amenity, with something for everyone, every day of the week—we want to bring vibrancy to that part of town and create a buzz that will be felt all around The Heatons!”
