16 Acre Brownfield Site in Leek for Mixed Use Development
The Casey Group Limited and Land Owner Barnfield Hughes have signed a development agreement to bring forward a 16-acre brownfield site in Leek for mixed use development. A former concrete batching plant which is no longer operational, the site on Sunnyhills Road already benefits from an outline planning consent. This includes significant redevelopment for 175 new residential units, and employment and tourism uses, including proposals for a new canal basin.
The Development team, which includes Roger Hannah representing Barnfield Hughes, have already met with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to discuss how this site can be brought forward in phases; and survey work and site investigation is now underway.
A detailed planning application is due to be submitted in late autumn for the first phase which will consist of 60 residential units with a total value of £10-12 million.
Councillor Sybil Ralphs, Leader of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “Redeveloping and regenerating Cornhill is a key aim of the Council as set out in our masterplan for the area. Developments such as this are the cornerstone of that masterplan so it’s great to see good progress being made on bringing this site back into use.
“For our part, the Council is working hard with our partners to bring forward other elements, such as the access road, and to ensure we are able to realise the potential of Cornhill for the benefit of Moorlands residents and businesses.”
