Roger Hannah & Co have taken to the road with TLT Solicitors and Barton Wilmore to deliver a series of interactive workshops for Local Authorities focusing on the use of compulsory purchase powers.

Often an under-utilised tool, Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) powers can drive forward the delivery of transformational infrastructure, housing, and urban regeneration projects. We have found however that many Local Authorities are nervous about implementing these powers. The workshops were aimed at demystifying the use of CPO powers and providing a refresher to those about to give CPO advice.

The workshops sought to give an insight into the process of CPO and key considerations for acquiring authorities. Interactive breakout sessions were included to provide the opportunity to consider how CPO issues can be dealt with in practice.

Topics covered include:

  • Preparation of an Order – budgeting and the compensation code
  • Establishing land take – obtaining approvals and undertaking negotiations
  • The process  of making and confirming an Order
  • Implementation – acquisition and advance payments
