The redevelopment of Anfield Stadium has been a long talked about topic. Recently the redevelopment of the Stadium and the regeneration of the wider area has taken another step closer to realisation, with the announcement of Compulsory Purchase Powers.

The £260 million planned regeneration was approved in October 2013. The development is in partnership with the private sector housing partner Keepmoat. Keepmoat have delivered the first two phases and is nearing completion on the third which will provide a total of 398 new homes to the area. In order to imitate the fourth phase of the development Council leaders are now invoking Compulsory Purchase Powers in order to acquire the remaining 23 properties and sites in the Anfield area.

Mayor Joe Anderson stated that: “Throughout this process I have been clear that we would only use CPO powers as a last resort or if it was not possible to identify the owners of the properties in question. Completing the CPO will have a hugely positive economic impact on the Anfield area and there is a compelling case that we use these powers in this instance.”

The announcement of CPO powers could mean the progression of the regeneration by October 2014 if no objections are raised. The Council are looking to make the CPO by the end of May 2014.

The remaining 23 owners will be entitled to the compensation rights stipulated by Compulsory Purchase Law.

If you are a business owner, or have a property which is affected by the Anfield CPO, it is critical that you appoint a CPO specialist to ensure that you are correctly advised and compensated.
